After cost-cutting blitz, Trump administration rehires hundreds of laid-off employees

MIAMI (AP) — Hundreds of federal employees who lost their jobs in Elon Musk's cost-cutting blitz are being asked to return to work.
The General Services Administration has given the employees — who managed government workspaces — until the end of the week to accept or decline reinstatement, according to an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press. Those who accept must report for duty on Oct. 6 after what amounts to a seven-month paid vacation, during which time the GSA in some cases racked up high costs — passed along to taxpayers — to stay in dozens of properties whose leases it had slated for termination or were allowed to expire.

Will they receive back pay from the date of their termination? This is insane, and the short-notice mandatory return date is totally unreasonable. The agency does not admit fault for firing you, but demands that you drop everything with less than two weeks' notice to return? This poor treatment is disgusting.

You’re right, we should believe those right wing news sources being sued for $700 million for lying.

This is happening at Labor too, except it's people who took the DRP and were being paid without working, so they got a free vacation for months. Efficiency!!!

It’s from the Associated Press. They’re not lefty and even if they were, I don’t see you stating anything about the article that’s incorrect

How is it a lefty publication?

The article is somewhat poorly written as it seems to suggest the RIFd people are being reinstated when it appears to be the DRP people or perhaps a combination of both.

It seems like it’s all doing a 180. Lutnick completely threw Elon under the bus when he said they wasted their capital focusing on just firing workers that save next to nothing and not focusing on the real waste in government.

That seemed to indicate they need to hire back people.

Back pay? These people took Elon Musk's offer to get paid doing nothing at home. Now they will just get paid to actually do work. This is MAGA cost savings

It's a ton of stress to be told you're losing your job, only to be told just as abruptly that you can come back to work. People would have preferred to just keep their jobs and do them--not this Trump induced chaos.
