So Grassroots is suppose to be community teams that focus on development of players , however it seems all these teams that call themselves "Grassroots" is more focused on recruiting "bigs" and "reclass" to win than development.
Those involved, what do you say? Have you seen the same? There are some good programs that really focus on the development for the kids but it feels a lot of going for the wins instead |
Are you talking about rec teams? Big kids need development too...Be specific. |
| Grassroots always seemed ironically named to me because it’s the term used to refer to programs like EYBL, which is probably the most competitive league in the world for that age group. |
No, I'm talking about AAU ?travel type programs. They say they are Grassroots yet they constantly recruit "established players" to win |
Those established players are probably the best players...Who also need development... |
| Girl, its like every crappy AAU team calling themselves "the Wherever elite": its meaningless. |

Here’s a good summary of “what is grassroots basketball.”

It seems everyone is calling themselves "Grassroots"
Almost all the shoe teams look for "bigs" and reclass kids. I've know teams where half the kids are reclass and one big team in the area told kids at try outs that if they want to play on the team they need to reclass. Programs are looking for the shoe $$$$ |
Yeah they want reclass’. Same for most of the WCAC players on the boys side. They need to reclass. It’s now rare that a player doesn’t reclass. |
