| I hear orders of magnitude more about Luigi Mangione and Tyler Robinson than the guy who shot the president. Isn’t this incredibly odd?? |
| Good question! What do we know about him? |
He was once a Republican and gave to Act Blue once. That’s pretty much it. |
| Trump has zero vengeance for him. Hmmm. |

There's like 320+ pages on a thread:

Exactly. It was a year ago, and the assassination of an influencer that occurred like a week ago has already nearly doubled the shooting of a two-term American president. That’s weird. |
It’s really weird. He dropped off the radar immediately. There are no news reports about the 2 men who were shot and survived. How are those men doing now? Are their injuries impacting their lives? |
|
He dropped off the radar immediately because he was dead.
There is a fair bit of info with links to sources at the wiki page on him https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Matthew_Crooks It says the FBI is still investigating, but in general it sounds like he was very right wing and also mentally ill. |
He’s dead. And cremated. Crooks fired a total of eight shots; one bullet grazed Trump's upper right ear, but he was otherwise unharmed.[41] Three adult male audience members were also hit;[42] one of them, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, suffered a fatal wound.[43] Why haven’t the 2 male audience members who were shot been identified and interviewed? An investigation by the FBI was reported to be underway in July and August 2024. Crooks' motives remain unknown.[48] So, no motive has ever been identified. After the shooting, the FBI uncovered a social media account "believed to be associated with the shooter" with about 700 comments from 2019 to 2020. A public statement from FBI deputy director Paul Abbate described Crooks' activity on social networking services as including comments that "appear to reflect antisemitic and anti-immigration themes" and "espouse political violence".[55] Abbate noted that the findings were preliminary and that the comments were still in the process of being authenticated.[56] So: the FBI has never authenticated these online messages? Why not? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Matthew_Crooks Trump shooter autopsy reveals cause of death after attempted assassination -Butler County declined a request from the USA TODAY Network for a full copy of the autopsy results, citing the state’s record law that specifically exempts it. It is unknown whether officials tested Crooks for chemicals or medications as is standard in autopsy examinations. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/investigations/2024/08/01/thomas-matthew-crookes-trump-shooter-autopsy/74634862007/ Thomas Matthew Crooks’ Body Was ‘Gone’ When Rep. Tried to Examine: Report The body of the 20-year-old who tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump was "gone" when Rep. Clay Higgins tried to inspect it as part of an investigation into the shooting, the congressman revealed in a preliminary investigation report. In the report, Higgins wrote that he had attempted to examine Crooks' body, but was unable to do so, and alleged the FBI was obstructing further investigative efforts. "My effort to examine Crooks' body on Monday, August 5, caused quite a stir and revealed a disturbing fact … the FBI released the body for cremation 10 days after J13," Higgins wrote in the report. "On J23, Crooks was gone. Nobody knew this until Monday, August 5, including the County Coroner, law enforcement, Sheriff, etc." Higgins said the Butler County Coroner "technically had legal authority over the body, but I spoke with the Coroner, and he would have never released Crooks' body to the family for cremation or burial without specific permission from the FBI." https://www.newsweek.com/thomas-matthew-crooks-body-gone-donald-trump-shooting-clay-higgins-investigation-1940195?utm_source=chatgpt.com |
Authorities have said that Crooks' political views are unknown, and they have not determined whether his assassination attempt was politically motivated.[8] Public records do not indicate his views.[49] On January 20, 2021, when Crooks was 17, he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a liberal voter turnout group, through the Democratic Party donation platform ActBlue.[13][50][19][51] His donation was made on the same day that President Biden was sworn into office.[12] According to the Progressive Turnout Project, he made the donation in response to an email about "tuning into" the inauguration. He unsubscribed from the group's mailing list in 2022.[52][49] Crooks had been registered to vote since September 2021, when he turned 18.[3] He registered as a Republican,[3][4][50][53] and he voted only once (in the 2022 midterm elections).[49] In 2022, Crooks wrote about George Orwell's essay "Shooting an Elephant", calling it "a powerful allegory warning against adopting imperialistic policies".[54] In April 2023, Crooks showed his frustration with American politics in a school essay about ranked-choice voting, where he claimed "divisive and incendiary campaigns are pulling the country apart". In another essay, Crooks criticized how NASA handled the 1986 Challenger disaster. He blamed NASA's administrators for the incident, claiming they were "trying to live up to the lofty promises they made to Congress which they were never going to be able to fulfill".[14] After the shooting, the FBI uncovered a social media account "believed to be associated with the shooter" with about 700 comments from 2019 to 2020. Why did he donate to Act Blue on the day of Biden’s inauguration? |

This CBS piece is pretty in depth about the kid: https://www.cbsnews.com/lifeofthomascrooks/

His Wikipedia discusses his social media and concludes with a citation to a year-old article noting that the findings are “preliminary and that the comments were still in the process of being authenticated.” Maybe one of our intrepid journalists might sometime take a pause from quoting experts and check in here? |
He was not a kid. He was a grown man. Why are white male shooters always called "kids"? |
Personally, as a former defender and prosecutor with decades of experience in the criminal justice system, and as a former college instructor, I call all young females, males, nonbinary, etc. of whatever color who commit gun violence kids because neuroscience has definitively established that their sub 30 year old brains are not fully cooked, they are very vulnerable in this age range to serious mental illness, and our society has since Columbine failed to address the serious issues that are influencing them to commit these horrific crimes. I’m 54, highly educated, brain fully cooked, and capable of compassion. Like the families of the victims of the Emmanuel AME mass shooting, my character allows me to forgive them because I grasp that they know not what they do. The acts are abhorrent but so is the cesspool of online evil in which they wallow because the adults in this society have utterly failed to hold tech companies accountable in any meaningful way for the content pushed to developing brains which by evolution alone do not have the capacity to withstand the resulting overwhelm. Most of them are kids - sick disturbed kids. |
My point is that he isn’t using it against the Dems, talking about it incessantly, etc. |
