Trump imposes $100K fee on H-1B visas in new immigration action.

| Finally |
| Well, there goes the only people that I'd be able to recruit these days (fed manager here). |
| Why can't you recruit anyone else? |
| Too late...we have had 30 years of H1B...we imported competition for spots in the best schools and in the nice neighborhoods. We also let this competition tell us that affirmative action to rectify historical wrongs is wrong in itself, since they cannot benefit from it. |
| Is 100k sufficient to deter H1B hiring? |
|
Companies will just hire remotely which they already are doing....
Genuinely worry about my DC's future |
| The point isn't to deter hiring via H1B; it's to discourage abusing it. |
I'm a fed. All the suitable candidates with US citizenship go for jobs at Google/Apple/Facebook for 3x the pay. |
QED. |
| Problem is how do you tell apart legit vs abused cases? $100k is a lot for mid-sized employers who do legit work. |

Oh my god. Making America Dumb again…..
Imagine if this was the rule in 1985. Half of the top Tech firms in this country would not have existed…..at least not as US firms. This is so dumb…par for course |
Dont be naive. This is exactly what is going to happen. |
What good have tech firms done? We would have been better off without them. |
I work in higher ed administration. This is not the case for our H-1B hires. This is going to hurt us. |
