Where could I go for a few hours this evening where I could have some peace and quiet. Not a drinker but perhaps a quiet bar where I could sit alone and read. Or a cafe that stays open late. I just need to escape my place for a bit. NW or Bethesda/Chevy Chase. |
I usually rent an Airbnb for something like this. Mostly because I don't feel safe going to a bar alone as a woman. |
It's raining. |
Bar at the Jefferson. |
Kramers is open til 10. |
This is a little too precious. I recommend Sfoglina, Rosedale, or Opal (all NW). |
And you are a little too bicheous. |
Honest question, what do you think is going to happen to you? I ask because maybe I'm missing something? When I think about places I don't feel safe, it's like, the MBT after dark. |
How late is the library open? |
Back table at Tastee Diner after dinner rush?
A Barnes & Noble coffee shop or 2nd floor? |
+1 Why it's raining? Traffic is HORRIBLE today. Stay home where it's cozy. |
I told my family I'm stuck in traffic and I'm sitting by myself in booth at outback for the 3 course $14.99 meal. Will be a blessed hour of quiet ending in a cheap piece of cheesecake 😬 |
Because I suggested restaurants with bars that are a little bougier, or because I suggested that in 2025 it is absurd to suggest that a grown woman rent a whole AirBnb for the purpose of being alone because a bar is not safe? I understand and am sorry if you have had bad experiences, but that doesn't mean that OP should scrap her entire idea to relax alone in public in a vibrant place with food and drink to pay hundreds of dollars to rent a house or apartment that is not the same vibe and does not provide food or drinks. |
Whenever I wanted to escape my family (summertime) I would get a reasonable priced room at the Marriott near me which has a pool. I would sit by the pool for an hour or two and then lay in bed watching tv in the hotel room for a few hours and then go home. Sometimes I would go back in the morning and use the pool again. The rates weren’t too bad and no one ever knew. |
Sit in the lobby of a nice hotel and drink tea. No one will bother you and it’s quiet and comfy. I like the Omni shoreham in woodley park. |
