My doctor wants to see me after getting my bloodwork. My liver enzymes are high... but when I went into my past years charts online it looks like they have been marching upward the past 10 years.
Otherwise blood work is good... Other than high cholesterol... that is less high than last year. What is this? He has never mentioned anything before. |
A common reason is NAFLD. |
Exactly. Can be fairly easily reduced by losing weight, exercising and eating a healthy diet.\\ Are you a drinker, OP? Certain medications can also contribute. |
How much do you drink OP? |
I used to drink on weekends but am 65 now so only have a glass of wine once or twice a month.

Your doctor will probably stress moderate exercise, lower-carbohydrate diet, and perhaps supplements (eg milk thistle). The good news is that if it is NAFLD, it is controllable/reversible. Some people are more susceptible. I've had it since I was quite young, and very thin. |
Me, too. Not super thin but not obese. I have PCOS and they are co-morbid. |
How high? A good doctor will get you in to a gastroenterologist. Mind tested for everything under the sun including autoimmune, hemochromatosis, hepatitis, etc. Plus I was sent in for a special ultrasound that measures liver fat and possible cirrhosis. It’s definitely worth pursuing answers for this as liver disease can easily go overlooked until things are critical. Early on changes can be made to help your liver heal. |
