I know Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop are super close, but what’s the deal with Lauren and Alexis? I feel like they did not gel AT ALL during A Year In The Life and their chemistry felt forced and “off” but then watching them on last night’s Emmy red carpet and on-stage bit. It was cute, but to me it looked like Alexis appeared to be going through the motions under duress or obligation. No joy in her face at all and had a very stoic smile that didn’t look genuine or warm on the red carpet, like “okay let’s just do this.”
Then on red carpet interviews, Lauren seemed to choose her words very carefully, nodding to the celebration over the Gilmore Girls 25-year anniversary, and the fact that this would be the only public appearance to mark the event—and she never said anything about how thrilled she was to be with Alexis again or how much she adores her the way she did just a short time ago with Kelly Bishop when they appeared on stage together during her new book tour. Did anyone else pick up on this? Is there some sort of bad history or falling out that we don’t know about? |
Yeah I thought they both seemed miserable during their onstage bit. |
Alexis Bledel always seems so stuck up and miserable. I don't think she's a pleasant person. |
Does she act anymore? |
Alexis sort of always looks like she’s having a bad time |
Is my understanding she likes acting but hates the publicity part. She has no presence on social media and has always been incredibly private. I actually find it quite refreshing that she’s not one who stages paparazzi shots constantly. |
She was in Handmaid's Tale. That's the most recent thing I've seen of her. |
This is what I read before too. She’s reported to be shy and introverted. That does not pair well with public events and publicity at all. It comes across as awkward, rude, unpleasant. |
I think Alexis is very quiet and shy. Lauren seems like mega extrovert. I can picture them not completely hitting it off. |
I noticed this too and it was really weird.
This whole show had some really really dumb production decisions, but I think add this to the list. If you're going to do a cast reunion from a beloved TV show, it's only fun if it looks like the cast is psyched to be together again. There are lots and lots of shows where you could find the major cast members who would love the share a nostalgic moment on stage together. I bet you could put Rhea Perlman and Ted Danson on stage and they would be hilarious together with zero scripting. Part of producing a show like this is knowing who is going to have good stage chemistry together, and this year's producers totally failed at that. I do always find it weird when actors are SO BAD at reading cue cards. It seems like it should be part of their skill set? But many of them were just so terrible and stiff and you can tell they just hate the jokes. Ray Romano and Brad Garrett were the only ones who seemed at all natural. |
I think they get along fine. Alexis is just a shy person.
It's not like the relationship Lauren Graham has with Mae Whitman, they are very close. It's a weird thing we put on actors, expecting them to be very close with their co-workers, just because their characters had a certain relationship. Lauren Graham also said the rumors that she and Scott Patterson didn't get along are not true at all, but she's very close with David Sutcliffe, and that's where she thinks they come from. |
I’ve heard before that because she was so young and inexperienced when she was cast, and then had a massive amount of dialogue every show, that Alexis tended to keep to herself on set, and spent time memorizing lines, etc, which is perfectly understandable. She was shy and working hard and probably didn’t develop the closeness that other older cast members probably did. Just because she and Lauren Graham don’t have the same off-screen chemistry as they did on the show doesn’t mean there’s something wrong between them.

Yes, I think it's a temperament clash plus the age difference. Alexis seems closer to Scott Paterson than to any of the ladies, whereas Lauren has spoken very fondly of Kelly and Melissa. I think the whole cast would love to do some sort of second revival--Lauren suggested a Christmas special--and their appearance was designed to provoke interest in that. They need to get a move on, because they could never make this work without Kelly Bishop imo. Make it happen, Hollywood!! |
