Looking for grammar workbooks or online programs to supplement the DCPS late elementary and middle school curriculum. I don't get the sense that DCPS explicitly teaches much grammar in ELA. I would specifically like my kids to learn about sentence diagramming and/or sentence structure and would really appreciate any recommendations for things that worked for families. Also, if I'm wrong and DCPS is teaching grammar by something other than osmosis, let me know! I'd love to be wrong about this. |
My kid has learned a decent amount of grammar in DCPS. Mostly in 2nd/3rd grade, with sentence diagramming and learning parts of speech.
I do think they could have done more explicit instruction. However, my kid is a strong reader and actually has learned a lot of grammar "by osmosis." She can tell when grammar is off sometimes even without being able to tell you why, precisely. She does a lot of reading outside of school, though. |
