online school in HS- anyone do it for a year and return?

My DC is struggling with anxiety. We are in therapy and they are trying meds. Nothing is working and falling further and further behind and can't get to school. Counselor is adamant we have to keep trying every day(we go and try to get then in every day) but psychiatrist is being more realistic that perhaps it isn't going to happen, meanwhile we are falling further and further behind in school. Have any of you had any luck doing online school and then returning to "normal"

Part of me want to switch to online, start fresh and help remove the stress of being behind.

Our child was in middle school, but this worked for us. We had school refusal right before COVID hit and spending the year at home doing school online. It was transformational for her and she was able to reintegrate in person easily.

I recognize COVID was a unique situation but I want to encourage you that it can turn out ok.

In our circumstances everyone was online so they just stayed with their local school.
