If you mean ice I’m all for it but to do it to national guard soldiers who literally have no choice but to be here (many of whom signed up to pay for school) I don’t think that’s really fair or a good idea in terms of winning people over to the non-insane side. |
The Imperial March is a friendly troll. If I were a National Guard member, I would smile and accept it as such. ICE... is a whole different kettle of fish. No song for them. They need to be recorded at every turn, and yelled at by citizens and reminded that they are being too violent and arresting many people who are not actually illegal. But really, there isn't much to be done for the horrible xenophobes who sign up to work for ICE. They know exactly what they're doing. They want to be violent and hurt people. They've been waiting for this job all their lives. |
Is this a troll or a troll of a troll? |
It's a friendly signal to our beloved National Guard that even though we like them generally, we don't like them in this specific role. And we know they don't like themselves in this role either. There have been reports of plummeting morale among members. They don't want to be the decor for Trump's martial obsession. And since they have no arrest powers or anything that might be remotely useful against actual criminals, they're reduced to walking about and sweeping leaves and such. If only they had they power to go after ICE! I'd stick flowers in their button holes and buy them cupcakes ![]() |
+1 The National Guard can’t decide where they’ll be deployed. They probably expected to be sent to disaster zones to provide aid to their fellow Americans. Trump may be looking at them as his toy soldiers to use according to his whim, but anybody with an ounce of sense should recognize that they’re sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, whose lives are being disrupted for an assignment they didn’t ask for and don’t want. Moreover, from a strategic point of view, it makes more sense to treat them as “one of us” rather than “the enemy”. If (and I fear likely when) Trump orders them to attack Americans, we want them to have an instinctive recoil from attacking their FELLOW Americans, and not as taking action against self/declared enemies. Our best hope of the military viewing as individuals they want to side with and not as the enemy is if we treat them as individuals who are on our side and not as the enemy. If ever there was a case to employ the golden rule, this is it. I’m old enough to remember when the Berlin Wall fell and how easily the night that was a jubilant turning point for freedom for Eastern Europe could have been a bloody massacre, if not for the individual decisions of the border guards. That was just one instance in the long history of mankind where individual soldiers had to make individual decisions on whether to follow orders with lethal consequences or to follow their individual consciences and spare lives. When the time comes, a soldier may not have time to deliberate but have to decide in a moment what their actions will be, which will be influenced by their life experiences. If there is any hope to influence them, how we treat them now, before the crisis, may be our best opportunity. |
Are you people adults? |
Hilarious! |
Evidently not. In addition to petulant childishness, it's absolutely futile, accomplishing nothing whatsoever except to try to be cute and provocative but not enough to risk arrest. Sad that this is what passes for effective political activity. |
I’m told Trump saw this post and he was so overwhelmed by this powerful protest that he will send all the troops home tomorrow and then resign on Wednesday. |

+1 million to this. |
Good grief. Just when I didn't think Democrats could possibly be more immature... |
