How soon would you see a doctor for possible ulcer

Anonymous
For the past 48 hours I have been having strange, constant hunger-like pangs in my abdomen. It doesn't really hurt or stop me from doing anything (I have been exercising normally) but it's odd and doesn't feel awesome. I'm trying to decide if I should give it week and see if it goes away or call to make an appointment today.

Start taking omeprazole. You don't need to be in a hurry to see a doctor.

Yes, give it time.

tbh in most cases, they go away on their own with lifestyle shifts. I had one about two years ago & it was likely caused by a combo of dietary/ lifestyle issues, stress, and a round of antibiotics that were hard on my stomach.

I’m in my mid 20s and otherwise very active and healthy. Mine took about 3-4 months to heal completely, I didn’t go on anything prescription but I majorly slowed down & was sleeping a lot, like 10 hours a day and changed my diet to avoid anything super acidic and quit drinking completely for that time period, even though I wasn’t drinking except on the weekends before that. I also scaled way back on eating meat and added in a lot of fermented foods and high quality dairy products for protein, and a ton of vegetables and carbs . Also took pepto every few days

My biggest tip though with diet is not to undereat, even though it’s tempting! I have no idea if my diet and lifestyle healed it or if it healed on its own but sending good vibes to you - know it’s no fun!

Take meds - I prefer Pepcid AM and PM to avoid PPIs. Eat crackers between meals. Cut down caffeine and do not drink alcohol. Call doc for any sharp pain, blood in stool or severe symptoms.

-going through this right now and doc had me do Pepcid. Feeling better about 10 days later.

PS, ulcers need to be diagnosed by scope so your pcp would make you wait before doing anything invasive. I also requested a quick blood panel to check for anemia.

Stomach ulcers aren't caused by stress, they are caused by Helicobacter pylori or long term use of NSAIDs.

Not stress, not spicy foods.

You really need to get in ASAP.
