ffx colorist for graying dark hair

I love my stylist, but after begging to get rid of the red my hair turns I am looking to make a switch. I ask for toner and still end up with too much reddish tone.

Do you have dark hair that is 30-50% gray and a stylist that can help. I'm willing to retouch every 3 weeks (what I'm going now). but to spend that money and still look orange is killing me even though I like my stylist.

Are you using the right kind of shampoo and have you considered whether you need a water filter for your shower?
I used to color my hair and also always struggled with it pulling red. Oh, some other old threads on here had suggestions about demi-permanent colors or something rather than permanent. I can’t recall the details, but there were suggestions to avoid the red pull and orange fade out. But yes, could also be the colorist not getting what you want or how to accomplish it.

I’m in a similar boat. I like the brown-red but my roots are only getting the red and I look crazy. I’ve asked her to address it and it hasn’t changed. I thought “hot roots” were an amateur mistake but I’m paying high $$ prices.
