Can anyone share their DD’s track and XC times if they got recruited? We look on Runcruit but would love real life experiences as well. Also, if you ran at a D1 as a walk on, how does that work? When do you sign/do you sign? |
It is best to look at each individual school's site A lot of them still post times. What kind of d1 are you looking at? There is a big difference between times at UMD vs UMBC. Also, what event? Walking on at a d1 is very hard these days with all of the ncaa changes to track teams |
for ivies UNC UVA UMICH - need to qualify for Nike or Footlocker (new name/race) nationals, or sub 4:12 9:06. if you didn’t hit track times junior year, there are always coaches roaming the national x country meets looking for uncommitted kids - but qualifying no easy task
for patriot league level and upper nescacs sub 4:20 9:20 |
OP has a daughter. |
and roster limits having major disruption - all SEC down to 10 kids on men’s side for cross, 17 kids for ACC etx
If you’re on DCUM, ur probably concerned about academics first - in that case the top academic D3 schools are a huge win for a good runner with strong academics who’s not quite ivy caliber. Wonderful experience running at some of these schools - pomona williams amherst W&L hopkins NYU all have T20 ranked teams in D3. And all have slots for fast kids who would likely have zero unhooked chance |
my bad sorry, guess that’s what DD means! anyway pretty easy to do conversion for comps |
No walk ons for D1 unless a recruit "no shows" last minute. All the roster spots are accounted for with recruits. |
D3 schools maintain up to 25-30 kids on both the men’s and women’s teams which leads to much social interaction and built in like minded group right out of the gate. Georgia now lists 7 kids on men’s roster - horrible experience for the kids at power 4s who bought into the revenue sharing from house settlement. X country a major casualty - but D3 and Patriot league (which opted out of rev shares) are alive and well |
OP here, she is a strong student (like a weighted 4.0) but compared to a lot of the applicants she might not be strong. Her test scores might not be amazing, she generally doesn’t test well. I worry that those schools will be too academic for her! |
What event? |
5k - in the lower 19s
|
D1 is in danger of being eliminated and that’s no joke. Look at D3 or club running at the big schools. Lots of D1 kids are moving to D3 or club. |
She’s in the midst of some big time cuts thought |
Look into Conn College if interested in D3. They have a great women’s team and she would be a good academic fit there. |
Wildly incorrect |
