Blush that works with moisturizer

Anonymous
Mid 40s with oily skin. Very low key skin and make up routine.

I never used moisturizer when I was younger, because it made my skin greasy. I have always used powder blush.

Started using tretinoin a few years ago, and even though my skin is still kind of greasy, it’s also flaky and dry on the surface. So I now moisturize at night and the am. But if I put on blush within five mins of moisturizer, the powder blush instantly gloms on to the moisturizer and gets super intense. So I can put just the lightest dusting of blush on my brush, tap it ever so lightly on my cheek, and I look like Marie Antoinette with dark pink blobs on the cheek bones. It’s probably not that extreme, but DH regularly comments on how I look like I have racer stripes on my cheeks when I put on blush in the am. If I skip moisturizer, I don’t have this issue. I want to use a fairly intense moisturizer because of the tretinoin.

Is there a blush product other than powder that will work better for naturally oily, moisturized skin that will go on a little lighter? I’m sure blush cremes etc may achieve this, but would love some suggestions before I go buy ten samples….

Why not just let the moisturizer soak in for five minutes, then apply primer, and let that soak in for five minutes.

Use a primer first

What moisturizer are you currently using?

Op here. I would have to wait probably 20 mins at least for the moisturizer to ebb, and there’s no way that I’ll come back to the bathroom to do that. I need a solution in the three mins I get ready in the am or it’s not happening.

Currently using a Clinique moisturizer, but it happens with any moisturizer. I used to use Clinique gel (super light) moisturizer and still had this problem. The issue is that I still have super oily skin that, at core, doesn’t need moisturizer. But the tretinoin dries on the surface, so I need to moisturize or I have flaky surface otherwise.

Would a cream blush be better? It seems like you could blend it more easily. I have oily skin so I’ve always used powder blush too.

I mean the obvious solution would be to switch to a lighter moisturizer but you're saying it happens with any moisturizer so I would simply switch to cream blush.

You don't need 20 samples. Just stop at Bluemercury or Sephora or something on the way home from work and ask for a neutral cream blush.

Laura Mercier has a cream blush in a tube that I've used and it's really pretty. Chantecaille has a gel blush that I've never used but I use the gel bronzer and if it's a similar formulation it'll be good.

I add a little moisturizer to my foundation and can use powder blush soon after. Sounds like you are using too much moisturizer.

I think she's not using foundation from the sound of it.

Oh, ok. Then I’d lighten up on the amount of moisturizer.

Moisturizer then tinted sunscreen then blush

I have the same skin type and use tretinoin. I got that Ogee set of cream stick bronzer, blush, and highlighter and it adds a nice, easy contour.
