Can you cut an estrogen patch to lower the dosage?

Anonymous
I was just prescribed a lower dosage of estrogen. However, I am currently on a higher dosage and still have patches left to use. My insurance will not cover the new dose patches until I run out of my older, higher patches. Can I cut my current patch to match the new dosage?

Doubtful. It is time release and probably will surge. Call manufacturer and ask.
Call insurance. Typically a new dose is a new fill.
Call manufacturer of new patch maybe you can get coupon. Ask pharmacy price if you had no insurance they have coupons too.

Yes, I cut mine in half as recommended by my doctor. Place it lower down or it will tend to fall off.

Yes you can

I would call insurance or ask Dr to and explain it is replacing the one you have.

You need to talk to a doctor and/or pharmacist who specifically knows the exact patch you are using. It is possible cutting the patch could cause more rapid absorption, which would not be good.

Yes - that’s how my DD’s is prescribed - to cut it in half.
