DC is in a Catholic elementary school and complains that the math class is too easy and boring. Which private schools in Northern Virginia allow kids to take any level of math? |
The best you’re going to get is up to geometry in 8th grade, which you may already have at your school. |
Schools like Basis, Nysmith, or Ideaventions may allow greater acceleration, but the cost can be a certain loss of the typical school experience. |
Congressional did a great job with math differentiation for my two kids and their classmates. Both my kids had classmates that were taking more advanced classes than geometry in 8th grade. One had classmates taking Precalc and the other had classmates taking Algebra 2. Their math teachers are excellent over there and the school makes sure the kids are getting the challenge they're ready for when it comes to math in particular. |
Veritas in Arlington offers algebra 1 in 6th grade to select students.
Metaphor in Falls Church, but it helps if you are a Russian speaker ![]() BASIS, NySmith I assume also must? And St Elden in Reston (maybe slightly different name) |
You mean Edlin. No St. |
Allowed to take any level of math without testing into the class? Probably not many to be honest. Most private schools want the student to demonstrate mastery prior to advancing their instruction. |
Likely ![]() |
Why put words in OP's mouth? |
I assumed “allowed” simply meant the school has the capability to offer higher levels of math for advanced students, not that they plop Johnny who has just learned to multiply by 3 into precalculus because mommy wanted him there. |
