Designing a logo

Any tips for a novice on designing a personalized logo for an event? Is there an online tool that is helpful to walk someone through this? I have an idea of what I want but I don’t have graphic art skills or the know how on formatting so that I can upload it onto swag, etc. Thanks.

gIMP and xPaint in Linux are free tools. You could also draw and color the logo on paper then use your phone to take a picture. There are phone apps that can crop and edit images, perhaps make logos.

I believe MS Word, Libre Office Draw, and Word Perfect (if it still exists) can also make logos.

Why not hire a professional? Why would you try to do something that you have zero clue how to do? Not knowing what you are doing can cost you a lot of money and wasted time.
