Compare this thread to the Politics forum. The United States does not care about its children. What horrible culture and country we’ve created for ourselves. Shameful.

Why is it always Colorado?

Columbine
Aurora
Chris Watts
Patrick Frazee

Is there something in the water out there?

The U.S. used to follow the other developed nations in providing sufficient in-patient mental health care (including involuntary commitment, where appropriate).

Then, a left-led lobby began a successful, decades-long campaign to 1) shutter all in-patient institutions (see wiki on deinstitutionalization ), and replace that care with essentially: nothing.

They turned desperately ill (even violent) mental health patients out into our streets. Daily in DC, you can witness homeless, obviously ill, people yelling at no one, shaking fists, acting aggressive for no reason, etc. and no one does anything about it.

These same people in need of in-patient care, stab innocent passengers on public transportation, push people in front of trains, steal guns and go on shooting sprees, try to abduct children from local malls, etc.

Bring back in-patient mental hospitals! That is the real answer here.

I’m the PP you quoted. Homeless mentally ill are not shooting up schools. You are trying to tell me that nothing else changed?????? Hmmm, no 3D printed guns? No advances in how guns are manufactured? No updates to bullets? No changes in how easily the public can access weapons?

Only mental health treatment changed? Is that right? So, like, we haven’t made any progress in diagnosing or treating folks? So there’s no baloney intended to demonize medical interventions like medications?

Wow, you solved it.

This is problem is so impossible to solve that no other developed nations have solved it either. Oh. Wait.

It’s all so senseless!

Taking away guns is far more effective! A crazy person can't do as much damage with a machete/sword/knife - it's just not possible.

No, no it is not.

- not lawful,
- not Constitutional,
- not possible, and
- not going to happen. So stop yelling at clouds.

Even were it possible (it’s not) you’d still be left with an the dangerously mentally-ill people.

Dangerously mentally ill people will be around as long as there are people. If we limit their ability to do harm, fewer people get hurt - like take away guns.
