DC is considering English degree with potential dual degree in Education or Publishing. Some program they did at school looking at strengths also suggested Marketing.
Publishing and Marketing seem to be on the AI cut list, but teaching for 30 years seems a very stressful endeavor. Also, any suggestions for additional colleges for these majors for 3.8, 1310 SAT with fair ECs? Currently considering: W&M Elon Fairfield |

| Your kid is not getting into William & Mary with a 3.8 and a 1310 whether in state or out of state. It's not happening. |

Per Reddit, lots of kids got in TO. |
Huh? OOS private. Got into W&M 3.77uw TO. |
Has she done any mentoring or peer tutoring? To tie into the education narrative? Stuff in libraries etc to tie into reading/literacy? Assume 3.8uw? Private HS? |

Business major.
Maybe combine business & education as education is big business and likely to continue to grow. |
Not with a 3.8 they didn't. |

Don't do it!
I'm a high school English teacher, and I actively discourage any young person from following this path. Teaching and education have changed and devolved radically over the past 20 years. It is a difficult job and the behavior of students and disrespect from parents will have you questioning your life choices as you sit down for yet another multi-hour grading fest in the evening or on the weekend. |
| I'd tell them that the working conditions suck and that average new teacher doesn't last very long at all. If you can make it work, it can be a decent career, but it's very hard to make it work. |
Summers off still a wonderful job in the right school. Elementary school is probably better.
|
| Expect significant change in the profession due to AI & ML. |

As a female with a business career, I observe that teachers still have reasonable flexibility to manage the logistics of kids age 0-18.
I still see that there is evidence that these careers pair well with a spouse's career that is higher-intensity. Although there can be disadvantages from not going for higher-earning jobs. Two teacher families or two professional with flexible schedules in the afternoon also seem to be able to manage raising kids. I feel like my high school is stable now, post-Covid. Our district has typical problems but our town and the facilities are nice. And homes are not insanely expensive here. So quality of life is acceptable. |
Yes from a private they did…. |
