Considering having my son who is a junior attend the camp at UMW. Anyone have any feedback?

What is your son’s goal for basketball? D1? D3? JUCO?

Does you son have teammates going on to the level he hopes to play at?

My kid dipped his toe in the college recruiting process as a freshman and sophomore. He was invited to a ton of recruiting camps and showcases, and he went to a couple. They had no value from a recruiting perspective, they just seemed like a way for coaches to earn money in the summer.

One camp was billed as an exclusive, super elite camp, but the talent level was much lower than top level DMV HS basketball. Also, DS was dealing with an injury and didn’t play well, but the evaluation that they wrote at the end billed him as a strong D1 prospect, which didn’t reflect how he actually played. I had to assume that they just wrote that for all the kids, then spammed college coaches with their “evaluations.”

What garnered some interest from coaches was posting film to a recruiting site (highlights to show athleticism and shooting but also some longer sequences where coaches could see motor and attitude). That and good grades and test scores.
