Have you guys been following this situation that occurred at an Urgent Care facility in Santa Barbara?
An employee posted a Tik Tok video about “stains” left behind by patients with multiple staff participating, making goofy faces and acting like morons. Supposedly they have since been fired: “Numerous edhat readers sent in posts on Instagram, TikTok, and Reddit that show healthcare workers posing in front of what appears to be bodily fluids left behind in an exam room.” “Online commenters stated they were able to trace the social media account and its public postings to an employee of Sansum Clinic who worked at the Urgent Care facility at 215 Pesetas Lane in Santa Barbara. Sansum Clinic is now overseen by Sutter Health and this facility is now known as “Sutter Health Pesetas Urgent Care.” “The accounts have since been deleted and the posts removed, but not before local residents were able to take screenshots and share them with edhat, as well as repost them online. The TikTok video has been reposted here.“ https://www.edhat.com/news/sansum-healthcare-employees-fired-for-social-media-posts-allegedly-mocking-patients/ |
| OP here , meant to add this is disheartening and so wildly unprofessional. |
| I don't see the big deal. |
It’s gross but I they’re not identifying patients who cares? Suggests a less than serious office environment that you might not want to bring your most embarrassing personal health issues to, but that’s a marketing problem. |
+1. They were idiots for posting it but it’s really not that bad |
|
I don't really understand the outrage either. There were no HIPAA violations. Its not like this embarrassed someone in particular.
I think it's crass and suggests that normal bodily fluids aren't just that. Which, as an owner of any practice, I would be extremely upset and likely fire those involved. Patients should never feel as if they are judged by staff for getting care. |
| Would somebody please explain to the press that these are not bodily fluids? it’s extra lube left over from the pelvic exam. Yes, it was inside your body but it is medical waste. Still pretty crass to post those videos but there’s a lot of dark humor in medicine. it’s a coping mechanism and its really not personal. |
Yes it is bad. They are health care professionals acting like bodily fluids are some kind of inappropriate thing that they have to deal with. If I had gone to that urgent care I would feel really embarrassed and probably would make all sorts of medical care more embarrassing. |

Wow, surprised at the defenders. I guess some have higher standards. Ya’ll would be fine if it were your spawn posting these videos?
At least those involved have now shown us who they are , and I personally will approach doctors’ offices with much more skepticism and distrust. |
How would I even know? Much less anyone else. |
It's one thing to joke about something at work, it's another to shame people publicly on the web for something that is an artifact of the lube left over from a medical exam. It's almost like some of these medical office staff aren't too bright. Fortunately they've been fired. |
| They’ve correctly all been fired. Every single one. |
| Thanks for this. I benefited from learning about something stupid a handful of people did in CA. |
+1. In a land where states are removing mandates for school kids to be vaccinated against highly contagious diseases and where many people lack health insurance, this is not on my list of concerns. |
It is many heads from the same beast and speaks to current culture. Eroding patients’ trust in the health care system will only make the issues you say you care about worse. |
