Is more than 15 too much? |
At what point in the process? Not too many for a long list of possibilities. At the edge of too many for a list of actual applications. Can your student describe what they like about each school? |
No, more than 30 is

What reason does DC have? How competitive is DC? I think it's pretty insane unless DC is highly competitive with stats and looking for a full ride OR is a marginal/unlikely candidate for every reach school they really want to attend. |
As long as the kid can handle them with ease. I wouldn't worry about it too much, let your kid in the driver's seat!
Must have at least 2 true safties and at least 2 true targets that your kids love attending. |

Having more makes sense this year with the current political climate |
Each of my kids applied to 5 colleges total. Got into all of them.
If you are strategic you don't need to waste your time casting a wide net. |
Them driving is the reason to ask if it's too much to have more than 15! 🤣 |
Some schools do require any supplemental. If they go over 15, you can suggest applying to those schools that don't require any additional writing. |

Last year my DC planned for 18. It turned out to be too much work. Eventually only 12 done. It depends on how good they are at writing and whether they get burned out. |
We are trying to narrow it down to 10. Any more and it gets excessive to track. |
My kid is starting with a handful of schools with rolling or EA. His top two choices are on that list. If one of those choices comes back with an affordable option, he'll stop there. If not, he has other schools identified for RD. |
9 so far. Might add one or two more. |
