Heading to New York City in November. What are some must-have reasonably priced fashion pieces to not look like a complete tourist?. |
I'm a 40 year old mother of 3. |
I mean if you're walking around Midtown, you're likely to be in a sea of tourists.
Just wear good walking shoes. |
It's really ok to be a tourist. |
It’s NYC, really anything goes.
Wear black, don’t wear fake bags bought on the street corner. It’s fall, try dark jeans and add some suede - jacket, boots or bag? |
New Yorker here. Why do you care?
We don't. |
But you are a tourist. It will be obvious since you're sightseeing and not going to work. Why pretend you're a local?
Just wear a nice coat. |
How heavy of a coat should I bring?... Not doing a ton of touristy stuff but do plan to be outside a fair amount |
We can't tell you that at this point... just like in DC it could be 40s or could be 50s/60s. |
Check the weather a couple days before your trip? It's not that different from home, it might be very cold, it might not. |
Is it your first time there? If so, I’d get feeling a bit intimidated, but really just dress like yourself — wear what’s comfortable and makes you feel confident. |
Quilted puffy jacket or coat
Fleece vest to layers need be Gloves Black pants or dark jeans Sneakers or flat boots you can walk miles in Secure bag…or tote…over shoulder….zips or closes Hat Sunglasses Shirt or blouse you love Baggu type bag for purchases Sandals, high heels and white shoes say tourist and cause pain. New Yorker here! |
daytime- straight legged or slightly baggy med wash jeans, cashmere jumper, trench coat, style sneakers, suede slouchy bag
nighttime- dress, tights, trench coat |
Just wear whatever you like that is practical for the weather. Nobody is looking at your clothes and for sure nobody cares if you’re a tourist, plus, you are one. |
I visit friends in NYC all the time and what I love about it is that literally anything goes and no one is thinking about you or your style. People I know who have lived there for decades dress no differently than we do here. Just normal clothes. Others love fashion and dress the part. There is no real tourist style and if someone seems like a tourist, no one cares or is looking at them/you. The only thing that is not in style is worrying about what’s in style. November is a great time for Fall clothes but you likely won’t need a heavy coat. |
