New grads finding job?

My kid just graduated from college. Is the job market bad for new grads or does it just depend on the field? My kid and his friends have done pretty well finding jobs (architecture and engineering). But I wonder about my CS major kid that graduates in a couple years.

The new grad unemployment rate is higher than the national average, and the national average is bad and getting worse.

Eveyone from my financial advisor to my cleaning crew have recent college grads and maybe 1 out of 10 or so has found a job. This is across undergrad and grad. So, from both ends of the spectrum and a wide variety of degrees amongst them. In our social circle, we and others in various fields are also losing jobs. It ain’t good out there!

What do you not understand about the unemployment rate rising?
Trump's policies stink and there will be millions out of work by next year and the year after etc.
Republcians want to crush the economy and they are doing a bang up job.

I understand the CS labor market is oversaturated and even if AI turns out to be the wet fart it probably is, it's still a giant tech bubble that will further reduce opportunities. Add in downward wage pressure from remote/overseas devs and there are few reasons to be optimistic. Idiot.

Both my kids got job offers- accounting (b4) and civil engineering (construction engineer)

My nephew who just earned a masters in math got hired by a hedge fund. They swept him up in no time, which surprised him most of all as he'd been prepared to hear nothing but crickets everywhere he'd applied and had been prepping to move back home.

CS I'd be more worried about. Or encourage them to go directly into grad school if at all possible. Maybe something in finance where CS skills and knowledge could also be beneficial.

What school did your nephew attend? What city is his job in?

Apparently he had more transferrable knowledge than the straight-up finance folks he was up against. I think his BS included a minor in business.

There’s always law enforcement. A decent $70,000 starting salary in the academy and then $30,000+ in overtime is better than being unemployed. Serve your community rather than some rich guy, or shareholders.
