I'm DC born and raised, and just now wondering have I been saying Anacostia wrong thois whole time?
I say it with 5 syllables, sort of like ann-uh-KOSS-tee-uh but should it be more like 4 syllables an-na-KA-sha? |
| I've never heard it pronounced except as five syllables. |
Same. |
|
Anna-COS-tia.
And since you're DC born and raised and don't know how to pronounce Anacostia you probably need to be reminded that Anacostia is a specific neighborhood, not a catchall term for anywhere east of the river. Also not all of Southeast is east of the river, and not everything east of the river is in Southeast. |
You pronounce it exactly the same way as the OP except you’re a B about it. |
💯 |
🤣🤣 (That’s how it’s pronounced.) |
I heard someone saying it like ![]()
And it was like whaaaaat??? |
|
Nice rebus, PP.
I say it more like Anna-kost-cha. But I'm not a born local. |
First pronunciation |
| Ann-uh-cost-chuh |
| I've lived in Anacostia for 30 years, and I've only heard it pronounced with five syllables. |
Says no native ever. |
| Those are the same pronunciation but with different accents. |
| I pronounce it the same way I hear the metro announcer says it. |
