Hs transcripts change

Anonymous
I just received notice from my child's HS that they will not be sending any transcripts out to colleges until October due to FCPS doing a transcript overhaul.

This means that all students sending early applications to schools with rolling admissions will not receive a decision until after those transcripts are received, thus eliminating the advantage of applying early in the first place! I'm pretty annoyed about this.

FCPS should have mentioned this earlier in the process. But typical FCPS move.

Then again only some kids going to college isn’t really equitable, so not a priority for FCPS.

They just told you this? That's crappy, especially since (in theory) the Applications opened August 1. I'm sorry.

I assume this is a Gatehouse issue and not a school issue?

What do those people do?

Find ways to screw up. Let’s see when do kids need to have transcripts sent? In the fall, so let’s make changes to the system then.

The common app allows you to fill out your coursework and GPA etc most schools will make a an offer conditional on getting the official transcript. This should nkt be an issue in like 99.9 of the cases

Still a very, very bad look.

Not all schools accept the common app. A large majority do, sure, but not all.

Self report somewhere, somewhere on the application. I would have your student contact the regional rep of the college, who handles visits to your particular HS, and let them know. Good excuse to show interest and be in touch too. State the application is in (give a case number, any identifying info)

Maybe they will work some magic

There's going to be rush for transcripts requests, when they do become available (and assuming it is October... which is horrible. Shame on you FCPS) Most students will suffer some consequences.

Report this to The Washington Post
As many media outlets as possible
That News Station that does investigations

This is actually great news! FCPS is changing the transcripts to show that classes were taken online. Finally those who take the easy way out on APs are exposed!

Who is hurt by this? It would be a tiny number of students who have applied rolling and I don't know of any that require a HS transcript (versus self reporting grades + courses taken). What are we up in arms about?

Idiotic take. DD took a foreign language online. Super super hard way to learn a language, from 10 minute videos and a bunch of homework. She's doing the next course in the progression in person, and it's SO much easier.

But for some courses at some schools apparently online AP is a hack for an easier route.

It is a gatehouse issue.

This change should have happened over the summer.
