I’ve never done birth control but have read that the higher doses of estrogen can cause nausea similar to the high estrogen levels that cause hyperemesis.
As someone with extreme PTSD from prior HG pregnancies, I’m very nervous about using anything to alleviate my peri symptoms that might cause nausea. I’d like to hear from women who’ve had hyperemesis and used either birth control or HRT to alleviate peri symptoms. Tell me about your experience with either of these approaches. |
| I had hyperemesis in all my pregnancies and before that BCP with estrogen caused nausea for me so I do not take any HRT. I've had success managing any symptoms with diet and lifestyle changes. |

My gyn put me on estrogen without really discussing much. I was on the patch for about two months and it did cause nausea, though nothing unmanageable. However, I ended up in the ER with shortness of breath, confusion, and dizziness. I don't know if the patch caused all of that definitely, but the symptoms disappeared after I took the patch off.
I've also never done well on BC. I just couldn't do it. Hormone replacement is not for everyone and I really wish doctors would spend even the minimal amounts of time talking to us about it and educating us. |
