Dark skin knees/elbows

Anonymous
My daughters are mixed race Indian and have golden brown skin, except their knees and elbows, which are kind of like a dark ashen grey. My older DD is very self conscious about this. We use lotion occasionally (she doesn’t remember to do it every day) but it makes very little difference. The hair on her knees is also very short and rough, unlike the rest of her skin hair that’s long and soft.

I’m white/fair skinned and have no idea how to help care for their skin. Welcome any advice!

I am 100% Indian and have the same issue. I think it’s genetic on my case since my grandmother and some of the aunts and cousins on my dad’s side also have the same. We all take good care of our skin since childhood (lotion/oil/body butter after shower every day). A few ladies got some lightening cream from the dermatologist but I’ve chosen to just live with it.

It’s genetic. There is nothing she can do about the color unless she uses skin lightening cream which I wouldn’t do. However these dark areas also tend to become really dry and rough. The best way to prevent that is to use lactic acid cream. The brand that you can easily find in cvs is amlactin.

I'd def speak to a Dermatologist about it.

A lotion with lactic acid could also assist.

It could be psoriasis.

Amlactin or Tendskin for getting rid of the rough hair and bumps on the knees. It will exfoliate.

Use any moisturizing lotion, but doctor it with - 1 part glycerin and 1 part water - on the knees to soften the skin and the grayness will disappear.

Ambicream will work for lightening the skin but then you also need to use heavy SPF.
