I don't think you understand math. The only thing that Reed will drive is possibly moving some PUs in the NW part of Swanson's zone to Williamsburg if the new choice program at Williamsburg doesn't end up filling the building. Then APS will need to shift more kids north to balance capacity, not south. No way is APS going to reopen the proximity debate again. But you sounds like a really bitter person, so sorry about your life.

Hmm it doesn't look like you and the rest of the people in North Arlington understand math. Kenmore will be over 50% Economically Disadvantaged Kenmore will be over 50% ED. This is in one of the wealthiest most educated counties in the country. Surely we can do better for the children in our community with just a few adjustments to the map. But now I am beginning to understand the Arlington Way.

No, we understand that math. We just don't think spending limited APS funds on busing kids around is the way to fix what is essentially an affordable housing issue. You may not agree with that position, but there was overwhelming support for prioritizing proximity in both N and S Arlington. You can focus your anger specifically on Madison Manor and Dominion Hills if it makes you feel better, but we were not the only planning units that spoke out in favor of maximizing walkability. That sentiment was county-wide.

It was covered well in an earlier post. Now let's open the red wine and pop some popcorn - South Arlington is about to get thrown under the bus.

In Arlington they have perfected the use of doublespeak and code words for disenfranchisement. This is so the undesirables will not realize they are being taken advantage of.

Words like "walkable", "car free diet", "Continuity", "long bus rides", "alignment", "under route 50", "get up earlier", even School Board members use terms like "Every School in Arlington is Equal."

It was summed up earlier "At the end of the day, this is the problem: No one wants to go to school with the poors. The poors do not want to go to school with the poors. Every post here results from this fundamental truth. We all love diversity, provided there are no poors."

Exactly.

Proximity was one of the highest priorities for most families. End of story.

Yes, proximity to white wealthy people. That is the proximity North Arlington families have fought for, and won.
Congratulations. They deserve it. They paid a premium for it.

Did RG present another option?

He had worked tirelessly on one but was unable to get the votes so he chose not to put it forward and cause community angst on a losing proposition. He voted for the boundaries, emphasizing the motion's language to pursue refinements and updates. He isn't happy, that was clear.

Any ideas on what program is most likely to end up at Williamsburg?

A possible new program or just moving/expanding an existing one?

No really I’m very serious. Slow claps. You all believed and achieved. I didn’t understand when I bought in south Arlington, that education was a zero sum game in APS. I’m clear about it now. I’m truly happy for you all.

Does the School Board always just rubber stamp the path of least resistance?

For the most part they gave the loudest parents what they asked for.

WOW, you're still at it... belittling Swanson parents who (SHOCK) want their kids to be able to walk the half-mile to school rather than pile onto a taxpayer-funded bus to be driven 1.5 miles just to make the likes of you (snooty, faux-Liberal) Kenmore parent feel good about your choice to live in a less-desirable school district!

Sorry I won't have the pleasure of interacting with you and your cohorts at future Kenmore PTA meetings!

I think it's time for you to move. Take your bitterness to PG county and have your pick of "diverse" schools.

I love all of the faux-Walkers in Arlington. Where my kids go it seems like more kids get dropped off in cars - or parents go to option/choice programs than actually walk. Walkable is just a cover for Disenfranchisement and Segregation.

I'm not the poster you're responding to, but wow. Frankly, you sound pretty bitter yourself. And racist.
