What is a good sport to try for DS8 who is 30th percentile for height and weight? He has done a couple rec teams, but doesn’t seem to have any strong proclivities except that he has absolutely no fear of the ball or other kids arms, feet, bats, heads. I guess I would say he has grit or is all in? When he plays catcher he will get hit by the ball and happily continue or when playing goalie will spring on the soccer ball.
What sport is best for someone who isn’t huge or tall but will just hit hard, and run and defend completely all out, no holds barred? |
| I'd say anything he wants except, eventually, basketball |
| Lacrosse! You don’t need to be big to be good. |
| Gymnastics/ninja gym |
| Gymnastics for sure. Diving. Being in a circus. |
| Fencing. My son was tiny and loved it. Fantastic exercise (I tried it too a few times and was exhausted and drenched in sweat every time). He was also the coxswain on a rowing team in MS. It freaked me out that he was in charge of a $30k boat but he did a great job. |
| Martial arts |
| Wrestling - all weight matched |
| Fencing for unathletic small kids |
| Wrestling |

Any sport he likes. Fearlessness is everything. My daughter is in the 98% in height but can’t handle the pushing and grabbing or competitiveness of team sports. Fearlessness beats height in sports.
People are talking like his peers in sports are future NBA players. They aren’t. Let him play what he likes. |

Rock climbing
White water kayaking (Calleva has after school classes) |
Fencing requires a lot of stamina and fine motor skills. |
haha ok
Please the stamina is NOWHERE near almost any other sport, but feel better about doing it for your kid to get some weird college benefit. |
| Bjj and wrestling |
