DS turns 18 this fall. He's already living in a college dorm a plane ride away. He already has all of college essentials - laptop, bike, tablet, everything he needs for the dorm. His dorm room is tiny, so no room for extra stuff. He doesn't wear a watch (he's been given a couple over the years, including an Apple watch, and they sit in his room here at home). He doesn't have a car with him, and is super busy with classes and a fall sport, so I'm having a hard time coming up with "experience" type gifts for where he is.
Any ideas from the DCUM hive mind?? |

We have same with a daughter. She is going to school in a coldish area. I got her boots. I think they will make her happy. I'm going to get a cake delivered.
OP here. Winter clothing / boots are a good idea. His climate is not much colder than here, but he'll spend more time walking outside in the winter for classes. Maybe a good winter coat. He has one, but it could use an upgrade i think.

Portable Speaker? That’s what my then-freshman boy asked for as a Xmas gift last year.
Once my son hit college, he just wanted cash. It feels so impersonal and it feels odd to me to not wrap something. My compromise is I will put the check or Visa gift card in a gift bag or box surrounded by favorite treats. He’s the same for the holidays.
