DD is currently an 8th grader and is applying to high schools this fall.
We are interested in learning about schools that offer dual enrollment classes, as many universities aren't even giving credit for AP classes. I know Georgetown Visitation offers dual enrollment with Mount St. Mary University. Would love to hear about other private high schools doing the same. Open to both coed and girls only. Religious or non-religious. Thanks. |
| Most Universtieis give credit for AP classes. |
| What is your rush to take mediocre college classes in order to spend less time at a 4 year school? |
| Depends on the college, but some give much better placement to dual enrollment classes. It’s mainly Public colleges that need a pathway from community college to 4-year universities. |
+ 1. This is really unimportant. |
| Visi only offers business classes for DE, and they are virtual. |
|
If you go to a good private, those classes will probably be better than community college classes.
Private school and dual enrollment is not really a thing. |
| If you really want a broad range of DE offerings, you have to go public. Almost no area privates offer DE classes at all, and when they do they are very limited. |
Why pay for private school if you don't feel the classes benefit your kid? |
| DJO, Bishop Ireton do for Engineering, English and Computer Science (as well as APs) |
| AHC (Holy Cross) had a program with Marymount when my DD was there. It wasn’t that long ago so it may still be running. |
This is 100% false. Top colleges don’t give you anything for DE…they don’t take the credits and don’t give you better placement. Nearly all of those same colleges will give you actual college credit for AP scores (you need a 5 and mostly STEM and language APs). Only 8 colleges award no AP credit. |
Georgetown Visitation also offers dual enrollment at Georgetown University. |
| The point above about college is not taking dual enrollment I think is worth noting. I do think it can help with admissions to show that you took challenging classes, but we know several kids whose college did not accept the actual credit. |
They also don’t give you automatic placement into higher level courses but in theory you should do well enough on the college’s own placement test because you already took the class. |
