| DC is sitting here waiting for college to start. All friends have left already. My socials are filled with happy drop off posts. My kid doesn't even know what classes he's taking. Yeah it's a month and it'll go by, but it's pretty darn annoying. |
| There is still time to drop out and enroll in community college, OP. |
| Chicago? |
| Lucky you! You still have your DC for another week or so. Have some great meals and moments together. Take a day off and explore your city or roadtrip somewhere fun. |
|
What school?
Similar here. NU |
| He should be working a ton of hours in a summer job. My kid worked like 60+ hrs a week in late August/early September when the other college kids/high schoolers went back to school. |
OP: In fact he is! Spending money will def not be an issue. But I'm sure he'd rather be having fun and starting his life. |
|
And you will have it on the back end when all of his friends are home working/having fun and he is stuck in finals in early June.
Something to consider when choosing a quarter system school. |
| My son is bummed too but he is Door Dashing for hours each day and making money. |
But they and maybe you too will love it when they are done at Thanksgiving but their semester peers have to return back to college after Turkey weekend. #Carleton |
| My DS also not off for a while yet. Yes working for a couple more weeks and then we might do a mini trip. I am sure he will miss his friends but the positive side is that he will be more than ready to start. Also next summer he can do a July-Aug internship and still have a few weeks in Sept to vacation, visit friends at other school, etc. |
| Same here. UCLA. |
OP: The quarter ends mid-December. I hear they have a ton of work to do over Tgiving
|
Yeah, it's definitely miserable. I admit we didn't spend a lot time thinking about this. DC was excited for the idea of getting to take extra/shorter classes. |
| Yes, it isn’t ideal. Mine is continuing her internship until she leaves (late September!) and will visit friends already in school in NYC. We would also take a family vacation if we didn’t still have a child in high school. Otherwise we are very happy with the decision (UChicago) and how the first year went FWIW. |
