Recently my “Tighten Up Fuel Cap” warning light came on the dashboard - I have tightened up my gasoline cap multiple times - and it still is on??
Has something similar happened to your car? What did you do? Could this mean something else is wrong w/my vehicle? |
| My 2009 accord does the same thing but it goes away after a few miles. Nothing wrong. It even passes the emission test for years so I wouldn’t worry about it. |
Sounds like an EVAP leak. Take a look at the inside of your gas cap. Is the gasket cracked or otherwise decaying? |

Re-tighten your gas cap making sure you hear at least three deliberate clicks.
Your car then needs to go through several “drive cycles” where it checks the gas system on its own. Drive cycles are the not the easiest to do on your own but eventually the gas cap error message should go away. This could take up to two weeks depending on how much you drive. |
| Go buy a replacement cap. That’s the cheapest quickest thing to do right now. |
+1 I would buy an OEM one. |
| If you do get new gas cap, car still needs to go through drive cycles. |

Thank you everyone!

| Have light reset after you have done what others have suggested |
