AP Human Geography

What is this class? Worth taking it? How is it viewed by colleges?

Many 9th graders take it. It's an easy AP.

At most schools, you might get general elective credit, but nothing super helpful.

My hs tracked my new 9th grader for it. Idk about colleges.
We opted her out bc .. she’s in 9th grade. Whatever is happening, I cannot see her earning college credit this year. She is learning to be a high schooler, getting *HS* credit.

Colleges don't care about this class.

Our high school recommended no APs freshman year. I agree that they should start out just getting used to high school.

I think it's a great looking class and an important subject to know. If taking it for other reasons like college acceptance, its value is probably mostly in social sciences, area/international studies, environmental science/studies, etc.

My kid learned a lot in it. Who cares if it helps her get into college? She got a 5 on the test. It built her confidence in 9th grade - and again, she learned stuff.

It’s an interesting class but not considered particularly rigorous.

It is entirely a fluff AP

At our school, it’s a great intro to AP in 9th grade. The content is interesting, and the exam is pretty low stress.

My niece called it AP coloring

As mentioned previously, it's one of the easier APs. And for those who's schools are recommending no APs for freshman, know that your kids are competing for limited top college spots against kids who are taking APs freshman year

This needs to be taken in 9th grade to get used to AP.

DD took it as a senior and earned credit for a history course at W&M.

Sorry I was wrong. She received 3 credits for a 300-level government class she’ll need for her policy major.

No college admits students by tallying the number of AP courses they took, without regard to the classes offered at their high school. It’s not a thing. And kids who take no APs freshmen year routinely get into top colleges.
