I need a funeral dress for Sunday, and a dress for Monday

Anonymous
I almost never wear black. And I need 2 dresses. One for Sunday (memorial service), and one for Monday (burial, and reception).

Help. I’m a size XL. Needs to arrive by Sunday morning.

You can try Amazon same day. Or maybe Talbot’s or Ann Taylor in store would be a better bet

What shape are you? Apple? Pear? Are you short or tall? What's your normal style? How formal will each event be and what do you know about what others will be wearing?

Just attended a funeral; lots of women in pants/black tops as well so don't rule out.

^ I picked the Amazon Essentials in cotton, but there are others, so you could order two different ones, hopefully your size is available in black and Prime.

Do you prefer to order something for overnight shipping or try things on in store? If you need to order, I'd go with Amazon.

If you prefer to try on in store, Macy's had a lot of options the last time I was in your situation (although I don't know about size XL availability).

I do think that if you only end up finding one dress that works and is reasonably flattering you could wear it both days. No one will notice if you style it differently.

This. Even with Amazon your options of things that will arrive by Sunday morning (it's almost 6pm on a Friday night) are limited. Go to a store tomorrow morning and knock it out. Talbot's or Ann Taylor. If you're in the DC area, the Bloomingdale's in Chevy Chase always has good sales and there's a Talbot's nextdoor if you don't see anything there.

Where do you live? I’d just go in person to loft, Ann Taylor or Talbots. If you’re near Alexandria, go to Sara campbell. The last few funerals I’ve been to have had lots of women in black pants and skirts, too.

Go to Bloomingdales. They've had a ton of dresses this year.

Do not do Amazon. There are so many dresses that are unflattering and made with cheap shiny fabrics -- you won't be happy.

Go to Macys. If you are in MD, the one at Montgomery Mall will have a lot of options in your size. And if you can't find 2 dresses you like, you walk over and try Nordstrom. There's also a JCrew and an Old Navy that might have a simple black dress.

This... if OP has an office job and has black outfits she wears at work, she'd be fine. Getting one dress and wearing it with a different jacket or sweater is also fine. Dark gray or blue is also fine.

Ugh I have a horrible feeling we are going to the same events.

If you have navy or another dark color, you are fine. You can get one dress and just change it up with scarf/jewelry. The fall items are out in the department stores. Uniqlo had some black dresses today, but they were made out of sweater material so will probably be too warm. You can definitely wear black dress pants to at least one event.
