We are new to DCPS this year. Our school is Title one/CEP eligible. Is lunch free for everyone? If not, how do I as a non-FARMs family set up lunch payment for my kid? It isn't covered in any of the materials I have seen.

If it's a CEP school, you don't need to do anything. Your kid will get free lunch (and breakfast) along with everyone else. |
Thank you. Is there an additional fee for milk? It appears like there is on the website. |
Nope. My kid has been at Title 1/CEP schools for elementary through high school and I've never paid anything for meals. |
I’m the responding PP. Just got the email from DCPS Food & Nutrition with updated policies, and yeah it looks like they are now charging 50 cents for milk. Boo. |
i think that is maybe for a second milk. confusing |
Agree that it’s probably for a second milk given the “meal” definitions, and also that it’s confusing. Kind of silly nickel and diming.
OP, you’re probably good expecting breakfast and lunch to be completely free. |
I think the charge is for milk if you are not eating the actual meal. Since milk alone does not meet meal nutrition guidelines tge school cannot technically use free meal money for it. That said plenty of kids at my son’s elementary bring full lunches from home and pick up a full free school lunch and then pick and choose their favorites from both so I’m not sure how much this will really be enforced. |
