Hi- I know DCUM doesn't usually allow one link posts, but just received this emergency meeting invite from our kid's DCPS high school. It is an Emergency DC Parent/Caregiver Zoom Friday, Aug 22nd at 2 PM.
I attended the first planning virtual meeting - it was informative and helpful to hear how parents, students and educators are keeping our kids safe in this scary environment. Middle and high school kids rely on public transportation as we know, so community support to get the kids safely to school is needed. Look at "Washingtonian Problems" on Instagram to see where a young girl was hauled off horizontally by 5 men who were holding her legs and arms on from Waterfront Station metro on 08/20. She was just hanging out with her friends and they were talking loudly. She is terrified and screaming. Also, there are some unsettling videos of people posing as law enforcement (wearing fake looking FBI/ICE/police paraphernalia, etc...) and abducting young girls/women off the street in LA. I desperately hope that we can protect all of our kids this year. Stay safe, free and take care of each other, DC. "Fellow School Parents – If you’re like me, you’re feeling a mix of terrified, distressed, and anxious about our kids going back to school on Monday while DC is flooded with National Guard troops and ICE agents. What should be a day of joy, celebration and silly first-day photos is instead becoming the source of deep fear for many of our friends, community members and loved ones.
