End of 2024-2025 # of students in each class 9th - 534 10th - 541 11th - 523 12th - 501 (this class had the largest FARMS and ELL acceptances in the history of TJ, the classes after this admitted less FARMS students) The class of 2025 had the highest number of FARMS and ELL students admitted and the lowest % of Asian students admitted: Initially Admitted Class of 2025: FARMS 25.09% ELL - 7.09% Asian - 54.36% White - 17.7% Black - 7.09% Hispanic - 11.27% *only 12.76% of students who applied were FARMS, yet 25.09% of students admitted were FARMS (the experience points for FARMS must have been very significant.) Class of 2026: FARMS - 20.73% ELL - 5.09% Asian - 59.82% White - 21.27% Black - 5.82% Hispanic - 8.18% Class of 2027: FARMS - 11.64% ELL - 2.91% Asian - 61.64% White - 19.09% Black - 6.73% Hispanic - 6% Class of 2028: FARMS - 16.36% ELL - 6.18% Asian - 57.27% White - 25.45% Black - 3.45% Hispanic - 7.45% Not included in this data: Class of 2029 acceptances (more Asians accepted, less FARMS accepted than past for years) Asian - 62.7% White - 21.6% Black - 4.4% Hispanic - 5.5% FARMS - 10.5% ELL - 6.5% All percents for the classes of 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029 are the initial accepted in the first round of admissions. FCPS doesn’t release the breakdown of students that actually begin 9th grade so there is no way of knowing how many from each group accepted and how many were replaced with students on the waitlist. ***Biggest takeaway from this data, many more FARMS students are accepted than were unrolled for the 2024-2025 school year. The largest drop from acceptances to enrolled is FARMS students. **Second biggest takeaway is the question of how 177 students accepted over the four years were listed as ELL students, but for the 2024-2025 school year only 2 students were listed as ELL???????? *The class of 2025 acceptances were clearly a disaster as the class lost 49 students overall from acceptance to graduation and that doesn’t include the number of students added to the class as sophomores (typically 15-20 students a year). The admissions team did a horrible job of choosing students who would be successful at TJ for this class, otherwise they wouldn’t have had so many students leaving the school. *Even with the disastrous admissions change to try to increase the economic diversity, the natural process of attending such a rigorous advanced high school weeded out a lot of students who weren’t prepared for the rigor of TJ. The school was also able to admit many sophomores who should have been admitted in the freshman round to bring up scores and achievements at TJ. They're not doing those kids any favors. This isn't Yale where everyone graduates with a 4.0. They're going back to their base school with a ruined freshman gpa.
I think they have started to de-emphasize the experience factors but it's still hit or miss. They really need to bring back testing so they aren't just guessing. |
