Pete & Bobby Fitness Challenge

Anonymous
SECDEF Pete Hegseth and HHS Secretary Kennedy are issuing a fitness challenge to Americans with the hope that they can make America healthy again.

The challenge is to complete 100 pushups and 50 pullups in under 5 minutes. SPOILER ALERT, Hegseth at 45, and Kennedy at 71, weren’t able to do it that quickly, which is understandable.

We have an obesity problem in the U.S. that needs to be addressed. I’m for anything that might contribute to increasing the activity levels of woefully out of shape Americans.

Could you complete the challenge?

No. But given my age and gender — push-ups? Really?— that’s not surprising. I have an alternate challenge for them though. —Without using a car, starting from any place in DC that you like: Go to one Bank of America ATM, go to a CVS, go to any Trader Joe’s, then, hand carrying whatever you bought, return to your starting point before any frozen groceries thaw. Bonus points if they do this accompanied by at least one child under 5. Double bonus points if the tasks are accomplished on a day when the combination of heat and humidity “feel like” over 100. If an unexpected thunderstorm erupts during the task, additional bonus points can be negotiated — varying with the severity and duration of the storm.

tldr: Push-ups are nice, but neither one of these clowns is “fit” mentally, emotionally, or even physically— if “fit” means getting through the day without paid help and substantial privilege.

Why the defeatist attitude? It’s about the effort, not the result. If you watched the video you would have seen a woman highlighted for completing the challenge in under 4 minutes.

I'm a distance runner and not the least bit obese...but 50 pullups in 5 minutes is not happening.

I’ve heard pushups help expel measles virus with the momentum and gravity, so useful since they recommend skipping the vax.

You really missed PP's point. This challenge is okay, they are having fun with it.

But it's appropriate in a military context. These are not pertinent measures of health for civilians, much less the typical American.

Even at my most fit, I could not do 50 pull-ups.

It’s not 50 in a row

I would like to see how well they can touch their toes without bending their legs.

Probably MTG-style/cross fit kipping pull ups. Even then it’s still hard!

Most people can't even do 1 pull-up. I don't like RFK, but being able to do multiple pull ups after 70 years old is massively impressive. 50 pull-ups? I have a hard time believing that. Even at my most fit when I was in my 20s when I could do 24 pull-ups, 50 would be hard. After the first set, the number you can do goes down dramatically. I'd also like to see how strict their form is. It's not a pull-up without supinated grip and going ALL the way down and then all the way up without kicking. So many people cheat by having terrible form or by using body momentum on the way up by flailing around and kicking evrywhere.

Please...this is just another opportunity for these two to show off their roided-up bodies. They are very taken with their own looks and gym bodies.
