Liberal Arts Colleges where football games are packed and a social event

| My rising high school junior would love to go to a school where everyone goes to the football games, there's tailgating, etc. His older brother went to a large stage school that had that, and so he wants it too. I am very aware, though, of the downsides of that type of school - everyone had to move off-campus after a year or two, there were very few school-organized social activities, etc. So, I'm wondering what liberal arts or mid-sized schools have that, especially schools that give merit, as we're likely to be full pay. I'm wondering about Lehigh, Lafayette, Bucknell, Franklin and Marshall, etc. - that type of school. I know Wake Forest and U of Richmond have game days, but as far as I know, they give very little merit-- I could be wrong about that. Anyway, any recommendations would be much appreciated-- thank you! |

I do not know of any LACs which have packed football games, but Ole Miss (University of Mississippi) is the ultimate tailgating experience.
Maybe Furman University in South Carolina ? |

| Lafayette, Furman, Sewanee, Gettysburg, and Rhodes all have football teams and give merit to non-need students. |

U of Miami is not a LAC but it is a mid-size university with football, basketball, a lot of other D1 sports, school spirit but it's a private school so a little more services.
But housing still sucks. |

| We just went through this. If the kid doesn't want a small school, you're not going to convince him. Best you can do is insist on an honors college/program/LLC/similar at a rah rah flagship/land grant. |

I think that W&M loves their football team.
Rice isn't liberal arts, but it's small and they have D1 football (no merit, though). |

How are the grades/stats?
USC gives some merit for NMF…. Wake has some scholarships but you need to go all out now on demonstrated interest and schedule the interviews, connect with current students when they text etc. Richmond has some merit too. Davidson? For basketball rah-rah? |
