We were wondering where all the fireflies were

We just realized our back door neighbor uses Mosquito Joe:(. I guess this explains why we no longer see lightening bugs here. We had also noticed decreased mosquitoes and weren’t sure why.

I’m concerned about the honeybee population. Not sure there is anything we can do:(

I am pleasantly surprised we're still seeing lightning bugs this late in the season. The downside is tons of mosquitos though. It really is a pick your poison (literally) situation.

So spraying for mosquitos! Use misquitto dunks, they work so much better and don't kill beneficial insects and throw your endochrine and lymphatic systems in disaray

Season is pretty much over for them TBH. They peak around the end of June/early July. But yes, not spraying pesticides always helps and actually keeping leaf litter (they stay as larvae for years in it).

We don’t spray, use pesticides or remove our leaves and we had a ton of fireflies this year. But yes, the season is over.

honeybees are non-native and out-competing our native bees.

I haven't seen a single lightning bug or a decrease in mosquitoes.
