Chances of freshman making high school basketball team?

DS played for dmv public high school summer league as a rising 9th grader and was a starting player. He typically averaged 10 points per game as a point guard. What is his chances of making the jv team in the fall? Are there a lot more sophomores on the team?

If they need a point guard, his chances are good. It’s okay for a freshman to play on the freshman team.

Also depends on the size of the class. Every year is different depending on how many kids in each grade graduate and move up. Just have him go to try outs and do his best.If he started the jv summer league and did well he should have a good chance though.

His chances of making the freshman team are very good.

Its pretty unusual for freshman to make the JV teams at the more competitive/larger high schools.

I don't know about the small schools like yours. Obviously, much easier than at a Huge school, but who knows.

If he is really small, and can only play PG, of course then what matters is how many other PGs the JV team already has.

Was he playing on the JV summer team with older kids, or was he playing on the rising freshman summer team?

OK. If they were interested in putting him on JV for winter, he probably would have been asked to play some games with the summer JV team. I would tell him to expect to be on the freshman team. On the off chance JV needs a PG and takes him, he can be pleasantly surprised.

There is no great advantage of playing on JV. There may be at varsity, but not much of an advantage for a freshman to play JV.

Public school? I'd say chances are fair. Public school hoops, mostly, blows. At least in NOVA.
