I give my 7 yr old saffron gummies and don’t notice much of a difference - he still has pretty bad ADHD and combative behavior. (Maybe it would be worse without it?)
I hear a lot about saffron though and even my dr said there is good research showing methylated b vitamins, omega 3 and saffron can help with focus and adhd. Anyone have experience with these and if you do, what brands are legitimate? I’m looking for me (51 yr old) but also my 19 yr old son with adhd who doesn’t want meds because of side effects. |
|
How much sugar is he consuming every day?
How much outside exercise? |

My kids are swimmers so the youngest swims 6 days a week in summer, four days a week year round.
My 19 year old swims in college a minimum of 2 hours 6 days most weeks and does weight training 2-3 days a week. I can’t get him more activity and he’s still hyperactive. Dr said boys often grow out of hyperactivity at 12. Not mine! It is no different. We do watch our diet but I’d be lying if I said it was perfect. |
| We took saffron for 6+ months, noticed no benefits. |
| Saffron is a placebo. Just stop. See a nutrition who specializes in adhd or read a book on the topic. There are plenty of them. |
| You should encourage your kid to take the prescription medications instead of mucking around with spices and herbal remedies. You’re wasting valuable time. |
| Try a GAPS diet, with the assistance of a physician and nutritionist. Plenty of exercise too. |
| Deplin and en-lyte. Both prescription food supplements but usually not covered by insurance. |
| And yes to med scripts. Started at age 5. Miraculous. |
What is this? In a therapist. Explain how work and are they psychopharm? |
It’s not even a placebo—it isn’t working! |

NP. I used to worry about this (driven by this pro-med and anxious board) but brains are plastic. Growth can happen at any time, any age - and meds don't actually cure ADHD, they just manage it a bit. IOW, time/life unmedicated isn't wasted. Fwiw for hyperactivity, we only found meds to be effective (but for other ADHD symptoms we found some supplements helpful). |
| The saffron is a new one for me. We did the omega supplements for years….cant really say there was any change but I figured they could use extra omegas anyway since they didn’t eat a ton of fish. |
Neural plasticity is highest prior to age 3 and the next milestone is around age 7. It continues to decrease across the lifespan. Sure they can still learn but it’s slower and more difficult to enact change. This is why people push so hard for early intervention. |
