What sat score can salvage a mediocre gpa?

If gpa is 3.9/4.5 with a very hard load of classes and 8 5/5 APs also in very hard classes, what SAT can give a chance to top 50? What about Top 20?

What is the unweighted GPA? High school weighting varies widely by high school, so weighted GPA isn't helpful.

Put another way, how many Bs and in which classes?

SAT score doesn't really make up for GPA. Whether a top score can make certain colleges possible depends on what you mean by "mediocre" as well as the high school and which colleges.

OP, sorry perhaps I misunderstood your notation. I thought you meant 3.9 out of 4.5. If you are saying the unweighted GPA is 3.9 and the weighted is 4.5, that meets any academic threshold at any college. It is not mediocre.

None. No SAT makes up for a low GPA.

However, 3.9 uw and 4.5W is not low. At worst ie the most grade inflated high school I know, it is around top 1/3 of the graduating class and good enough for most T25-50s. At best 3.9uw and 4.5W could be top 10% at some privates and that AP number could be top rigor for schools that have fewer AP: T15/ivy acceptance would be in range.

If the 3.9 is weighted that is right around average and T50 is not likely possible unless it is a true feeder school. In any case high SAT even 1600 wont help an average GPA kid

3.9 uw is very rare at our school, these kids are applying to HYP. I don’t think it’s a mediocre gpa.

I'm guessing this is a high school student just messing around. Your 3.9/4.5 and 8 5s is really good. As for SAT score, you should try to get a high score.

I assume it’s pretty easy at any school ranked 30-50 assuming the entire application is good if you are say 1350+
