Is it worthy to take math 6+ at 5th grade?

Anonymous
My DS was offered to take Math 6+ at a nearby MS at 5th grade, then travel back to the local ES to continue the rest of the school day, instead of taking the Math 5/6 at his home school. However, after comparing the MCPS middle school math track, after Math 6+ at 5th grade, then Math 7+ at 6th grade and A1 at 7th grade, which end up to be the same as Math 5/6 at 5th - Pre algebra at 6th then A1 at 7th grade. Is it still worthy to do it? Either track will not prep him to take A1 at 6th grade.

I would not do this. Too much disruption and as you point out, you end up taking algebra in 7th anyway.

It's insane to even offer that.

Why didn’t my kid get this offer?

Maybe because your kid is not smart enough? Troll

Yeah this doesn't make sense. Is there a reason that this was offered?

I'd let my child choose but I don't understand why they will bus some kids and not others for classes they need/want.

If he's not taking algebra sooner, I don't see how it is worth it. He'll end up on the same track anyway for a lot of shuffling around.

Nah, no point in doing it.

I have only heard of bussing for kids going to AMP7 or Algebra. No this is not worth it.
