I'm 5' tall, and a lot of vehicles that the average person has no problems driving, present me with challenges. Such as not being able to see over the steering wheel, having to sit too close to the steering wheel to reach the pedals, etc. I'm looking for a small/mid sized SUV (the one I currently drive is a Ford Explorer; has 8 way seat adjustment, pedal adjustment, steering adjustment, etc. which made it a pretty decent ride, but has had a multitude of catastrophic problems I'd really rather not deal with again). I have a short (HA!) list, cobbled together from the internet, and based on recommendations by the folks at the repair place. I'm looking for recommendations from your (your friends/relatives) experience, and to see if I missed out on anything. Budget is not a concern, but this will be the dog car, so I don't want anything fancy where I'd be stressed about dog hair or dirt.
My list: Subaru Forester - Test drove already, very nice vehicle, super easy to drive, and they have a bunch of pet related accessories that would keep the vehicle in decent shape Honda CR-V Hybrid - Came strongly recommended by the folks at the garage. Said to only get this one, nothing else (something about Honda messing with engine/transmission of their other vehicles but not this; for similar reasons, they said to avoid newer Toyotas) Mazda CX-30 or CX5 Volvo EX30 Kia Sportage Volkswagon Taos - One of the guys cautioned against any of the VW SUVs. BMW X1 Anything I should add to or take off from the list? |
| I'd delete everything except CRV and Mazda. Also add Toyota Rav4 |
| I know someone 4'11" who drives an explorer. |
| X1 is nice but sounds like you don't want luxury. |
| I’m your height and love my Honda CRV! The seats can be raised so looking over the steering wheel isn’t a problem. It never feels cramped near the legs either. |
Even the Subaru? It has a great reputation for reliability. |
| The seat has to adjust vertically, I’m short too and it’s a must for me. I like my Volvo! |
| My wife is 4’ 11” and loves her Nissan Rogue. She’ll probably get another one when the time comes. |
Study Subaru carefully if you like how it drives. I have a Subaru and I am not too crazy about it. That’s why I didn’t include it. |
| I’m 5’2” and drive both a BMW X5 and Acura MDX. It’s easier to see over the hood of the Acura but I like the BMW more. |
| Hyundai Tucson or Santa Fe. I am 5'2" tall and find both very comfortable. |
I hated ours, couldn't get rid of it fast enough. |
| 5'2" and am happy with my CRV |

Lexus NX 350 Hybrid Toyota Rav 4 CRV Had an Audi hated it could not see as well Q5 |
| 5’ with short legs. I’ve driven a Forester for 13 years. |
