Potential job offer, but salary decrease

Anonymous
My government contracting job is ending at the end of the month and I’m supposed to get a job offer for a completely different field. The downside is, it comes with a $30k salary decrease. I’m a single mom with very high rent. I don’t make six figures, so I’ll definitely feel a $30k cut. It’s more than unemployment, but I’m scared that I won’t be able to afford anything other than rent and my car payment. I’m feeling torn.

Take it, but keep looking

A salary of $30k less is better than no salary. I mean what are your options besides taking it. If you can’t live on $30k less than you’re making now then you certainly can’t afford to live on nothing.

And you can still keep looking.

That's life, unfortunately. Maybe you can also look into relocating? How much child support are you receiving?

Child support? What’s that? Kidding aside, my ex-H is over $30k in the arrears and has been unemployed for over a year. The child support office failed to garnish his check when he was working and now that he’s not, there’s nothing they can do.
