No more back to school open house anymore?

Did the new super change it so there is no more open house anymore where kids can meet their teacher or walk through their schedules? What a terrible change.

We are at 2 ES and both have the open house on the Friday before school starts.

Our school still has it- it is Friday afternoon just like it always has been.

My kid has it for an hour in the PM on Monday (transition day for new kids).

Us too. It's a full day for new kids and one hour open house for returning kids.

I work in an elementary school - our open house is in the afternoon on the transition day.

Complete waste of time and useless. The school and teachers need to record their spiel on video and make it as comprehensive and clear as possible. Send emails to the parents with links to videos for each grade and subject.

If you call parents to BTS - you need to have all your clubs and signups, all the PTA stuff and membership, all discipline standards, rules of conduct, all medical forms etc, etc....completely laid out for them.

I think you're mixing up pre-school year open house (often for elementary schools, where parents can bring in little kids who might be nervous to meet their teacher and see their classroom) and back to school night (which happens after school starts).

Calm down. This (and a lot more) will be done the following Monday.

Yes, the PP has conflated the two.

Personally, as a teacher, I love the idea of pushing out a virtual BTSN that parents can watch at their leisure and rewatch as desired.

Grades K, 6, and 9 (and anyone else new to a school) now get a full day, called transition day, on Monday 8/25. And then schools can still do whatever they want for the other grades, and it sounds like most are still doing the same open house as they did in the past-- if yours used to do something for other grades and got rid of it, complain to your school.

For elementary kids it's very helpful for them to visit their classroom before they start school

+1 just to feel a little more comfortable in the classroom, with their new teacher, etc. Not useless at all.
