| I have a Charles Schwab brokerage account. What can I buy? |
| Buy spot etfs to start. |
| Buy etha and fbtc. That’s it. |
| Invest all you can into Crypto before October. |
Why October? |
| block chain good, crypto bad. |
| If you’re going to buy crypto you might as well go to a casino. |
But crypto is more fun. |
Start here: https://digital.fidelity.com/search/main?q=bitcoin In my opinion, there's only room for one digital asset and that's bitcoin -- there is no second best. "Cyrpto" refers to all digital assets, including bitcoin but also dozens if not hundreds of other coins, everything from fart-coin to hawk-tua-coin to Trump-coin. Bitcoin is the only one worth studying. FBTC is Fidelity's bitcoin ETF that anyone with a brokerage account can buy, which operates like a gold ETF or similar, i.e., the fund simply buys and holds bitcoin so the price of the bitcoin ETF closely tracks the price of bitcoin. There are several other bitcoin ETFs (e.g., Blackrock has one IBIT) but I think Fidelity's is the best as they custody their own bitcoin rather than relying on third parties to custody it for them. |
| Let’s start with the fact that blockchain isn’t an asset. So your question is like “tell me about dollars and the ACH payment network.” |
Until AI breaks their “custody” and it’s all gone with no recourse. |
Yes, yes - and the sun will one day burn out and everyone's bitcoin will be worthless in the vast empty void of lifeless space. If "AI" can break Fidelity's custody of bitcoin, then that means all other custodians of bitcoin will face the same risk. But I'm sure your "secure" investment account with your password consisting of 8 characters of letters and numbers (and a special character -- don't forget the special character!) will be just fine. As will your bank account protected by your 4-digit pin. |
OP here. Thanks for your explanation. To PP's comment about blockchain, I am aware they're not in the same category. But I want to invest in both. I can see that blockchain is incredibly useful for all sorts of transactions, not just cryptocurrencies. |
| How old? How much money? Why now? You had years. Get Robinhood to start. |
I'd rather stick to my Schwab account. I'm in my 40s, made millions in the stock market with high tech, but with deregulation of crypto, I'm thinking maybe it's time. It would be strictly play money, of course. Maybe 100K? |
